Windows To Become 64bit Only
By Robert | May 20, 2007
Microsoft have decided that 64bit is the way to go for the future. Not to mention that it’s Microsoft’s lack of support for 64bit OS is what seems to be holding back the OS from becoming mainstream.
At the annual Windows Hardware and Engineering conference, Microsoft announced that the upcoming Windows Server 2008 release 2 will be the last operating system they produce that will support a 32-bit processors.
I guess if you are running anything less then a 64bit CPU you may just be out of luck if you planed on installing Windows in the future. I’m pretty sure the guys over at Ubuntu would love to see the influx of new user this will bring them in the future.
Microsoft have always had a 64bit capable OS but it has always been incompatible with almost everything, the lack of driver support for the 64bit version has always been a problem. I think that is solely because of Microsoft’s lack of interest in pushing the product on it’s customers (we all know that has never been a problem for them before).
It was always said that Vista would have a 64bit option on the same disc as the 32bit, but that like all other good features in Vista, it was drop as the release date edged closer.
