Mobile Phone Calls in Aircrafts Debate Still Not Solved

By Robert | October 26, 2007

We all at least have heard of plans across Europe to introduce special technology that will allow mobile calls to be made while on a plane flight, phone call that will not interfere with the aircraft system. There is currently a huge debate whether to allow this to happen or not. Many possible passengers have complained and said that they do not want to be seated near somebody that will use a mobile phone on the whole duration of the flight and thus end up with listening to half of a conversation for possibly long periods of time. On the other hand, we still need to understand some mobile phone calls might be needed and if the proposed system is implemented, there will be extra charges applied. This would bring more profit to some carriers so we might get to see a company’s benefit is more important that what customers think move here.

If the technology is used, mobile phone calls will be possible if flying over 3,000 meters. It will be up to the airlines to decide whether or not to implement the technology. On the other hand, we still need the approval of national regulators in the EU countries. It would mean an added bonus for airline companies as they would gain even more money but also a downside if people decide to not utilize the services of the companies that implement the new technology. On the other hand, it is hard for me to believe that such a move would make anyone not use the services of an airline company. Such technology would be very useful for various individuals that need to make urgent mobile phone calls. The extra charge for each call is something that will restrain users and that will keep phone calls to a minimum needed.
