At the 2007 Nokia World Conference in Amsterdam, the company announced something that might tilt the balance of sells their way. Nokia unveiled the “Comes With Music Program”, which offers something that was not seen in the past. You basically get to choose free music from millions of artists, both current, past and that will appear if you purchase any Nokia device. The best part of it all is that you get to keep every single song for as long as you want, for free.

According to Anssi Vanjoki, Executive Vice president and General Manager of Multimedia at Nokia, the company wants to establish a music experience that people are looking for. This means all the music they might want with unlimited downloads to a PC or mobile device. To make it even more interesting, Nokia claims that there is so much music available that everyone will find something they want while also rewarding the artist that created the song.

It seems that Nokia obtained a deal with Universal Music Group and is in talk with all of the major record labels. According to UMG, there is a good working relationship established with Nokia and their Comes With Music program. It was stated that this move is one that will help people in discovering new artists while also getting to have access to the huge Universal catalog offered. The real problem is that we do not know how Nokia can back this up financially. We still do not know much about how the program will be implemented but we can say that there is a lot of press support for this. On the other hand, it is hard to say whether or not the consumer will care much for this program because there are different ways to get free legal music services. For instance, SpiralFrog seems like a similar option.
