Will Demonoid.Com Get Back Online?

By Robert | November 15, 2007

demonoidcom.jpgWe are currently witnessing a full blown attack designed to take down the biggest (or maybe all) major torrent hubs available for users. Demonoid.com is the latest victim as it was forced to close to Canadian users in September. This was because of huge pressure from the CRIA (Canadian Recording Industry Association). It only took the company around one month of survival until nothing was to be done anymore.

Instead of simply disappearing, on Demonoid.com users could have read a message that did not shed light on whether or not they will be coming back, although many individuals think that this fact is hidden behind the lines. The official message was:

“The CRIA threatened the company renting the servers to us, and because of this it is not possible to keep the site online. Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for your understanding”

In September the site was also down but this was explained by a server rebuild operation. We are noticing the CRIA going after possible hosts so it is not likely that Demonoid.com will be able to re-appear with a host in Canada. On the other hand, we do not see the same action as when OiNK was brought down in UK. Then, the Interpol declared that criminal investigation is going to continue, reaching the users as well. Demonoid did not appear to store information so maybe this is why the CRIA chose to simply bring down the site instead of attacking the users. It might also be something of a waiting game to see if Demonoid.com will be back online. The fate of the popular torrent tracker is still not known but it is clear that users want it back and the authorities want it gone. No details of possible legal charges against the owners were issued.

no legal charges were mentioned because demonoid was perfectly legal. there is no law against file sharing in Canada. the only reason why demonoid has been temporarily shut down is because the CRIA was threatening the company demonoid rents its servers from.
