MySpace to Launch Games Channel
By Robert | October 29, 2007
MySpace is soon going to get an add-on that might please its members. The web site is owned by News Corp. and it seems that they have signed an agreement with Oberon Games (a part of Oberon Media) in order to create a special, dedicated channel on MySpace, which will feature social games.
The most important social networking site is constantly trying to get better and this new feature, scheduled in January, should be interactive and allow for in-between member games and also embedded games in their profiles through widgets. This will not be new for MySpace but it will become more of an official version. We can notice a lot of third party widgets available on different web sites for social networks. Now we can simply notice that MySpace is doing something official and did notice the fact that individuals want to add more and more to their profiles. Also, to make things even more interesting, Oberon will be providing a special developer toolkit when the gaming channel will be launch and this is aimed towards allowing the development of further games by third party web sites easier.
This is probably just the beginning as MySpace is constantly growing in both numbers and possible widgets to add. Actually, ever since widgets were first invented there was some kind of social networking web site application in mind for them, I am sure of that! MySpace is currently used by so many people that want to get in touch with new friends or by others that are just marketing products and spamming others in order to gain profits. No matter the reason, MySpace is growing and the new inclusion of social games is going to be interesting, if handled well. It is the first time we see such a deal signed for a social network and we do not know if the games will be Flash based, although this is the rumor that circles around. We will need to wait and see!
