More Google Street View Images

By Robert | June 12, 2007

A lot of people have been complaining about the privacy concerns associated will this new technology. I don’t see what the big problem is. All of these images where taken from, and in public spaces. They do not contain anything that your not going to see walking down the street at the right time. Yes some may be a little embarrassing for the people involved but I’m sure if any of them really where offensive or even illegal, I’m sure Google would waste no time at all pulling the image from their database.

I think the new Google street view technology is great, and not for the fact that you might catch someone doing something on the street they wish they hadn’t done, but mainly because it leaves the door open for so much more in the way of exploring the world from the comfort of your own computer.

Well having said all that the last post I made about Google Street View images seemed to be very popular, so I had another search around and came up with some more. Most of these are not as funny or as strange as the first lot but more slightly odd then anything.

While I don’t believe that privacy in its traditional sense is being violated, I do believe that Google is taking advantage of people in an unfair way. For instance, shouldn’t they have to obtain permission to broadcast someone’s face for all the world to see?

    cbs covered the story here:

If news channels and tv shows like Cops have to blur the faces of those who don’t comply why not Google? Surely they are making a profit off of this new technology.

They should consider only bluring the requested images and not remove entire city blocks. The image of the guy peeing next to the road was removed but about a mile of road where you could zoom in to see him was removed also.
I fear that it could become almost unusable in the policy continues.
