Choose Your Own Screenshot With YouTube

By Robert | August 9, 2007

youtube-thumbnail.jpgSome people spend hours editing away tiring to make their YouTube master piece. Once you have completed it, you upload it to YouTube convinced that you will be a start in a matter of minutes. You have invested your sole into this video hoping that you will be the next best thing.

All of a sudden you see that the YouTube gods have chosen you as the lucky winner of the blank screenshot. You now know that no one will ever watch you video, having no idea what it’s about.

Up until now you have no way to control what the screenshot of your video is going to be. The screenshot is the image that is displayed in the video screen before you click play, and is also used by many to tell what the video is about and if it’s worth watching or not.

Now YouTube have added a brand new feature that is designed to do nothing else but stop this dreaded black screenshot. It’s called the “Edit My Video” option in the “My Videos” section. It is not the ultimate solution as you still can’t upload your own screenshot. I guess this is to stop people from making there videos look like something it’s not. But you now get the option to choose from 3 different screenshot taken from withing your video.

This is not the best way to get around the problem, but it’s better then nothing. It should save some people a lot of time and frustration re-uploading video’s hoping for a better screenshot.
