Run Linux on Windows…Maybe

By Robert | June 26, 2007

x_logo.pngDo you have an old Windows box around the house, but all you need it for is to run a few apps that are not available on Linux?   This may just do the job.

The X windows system — the base which allows graphical applications to run in Linux — has always had the ability for an application to run on one machine while displaying on another. That’s a basic concept of X’s design, and with Xming running on your Windows machine, now you can export those X applications to your XP/2003/Vista desktop.

So for the people out there that have no idea what i just said. It allows you to display you Windows applications on you Linux machine. Which if you only use Windows for a few small job, it can save you a heap of time. The main reason some people don’t switch to Linux as their main machine, is because some software is juts better or only available on Windows. I know some people like to think that everything on Linux is better and if you look hard enough you can find anything. From my experience that is not true, but let’s not open that can of worms today.
