Feed back from one of the first to check out the Samsung BD-P1200, the first of the second generation Blu-ray players. It looks to be a pretty big improvement over the previous models. The 1200 improves upon the last model by adding a few cool new features, but more importantly improves on the last generation’s unbelievably long load times by starting in under 30 seconds. The video performace was said to be perfect and flawless, and is now the best in the market for upconverting SD to HD resolutions. They have also dropped the peice too $799.

Here are some of the updates you will see :

HDMI 1.3 support but not many TV’s can take full advantage of this feature yet. They have also introduced a wider color range.

Also note the fact that the BD-P1200 has 24Hz support, also another feature that not many TV’s support but if your does then it should be a noticeable difference.

It upconverts standard def DVDs using the Silicon Optix Reon chip set, which is used by the SD Toshiba and is considered the best on the market for SD upconverting until now

This should help improve Blu-ray’s standing in the high-def race. HD-DVD have yet to release a player of this standard and will need to keep up with the pack.

The race is far from over but this is a nice addition to the competitors.
