New Sony PSP Extended Life Battery Kit

By Robert | January 9, 2008

sony-psp-battery-kit.jpgA lot of people have complained about the short battery life of the Sony PlayStation Portable game console. The hard truth of the matter is that they are right as we are dealing with a device that is disc based and comes with a large LCD screen. The lithium ion battery that is included in the PSP has a bad habit of getting discharged when the games tend to get more enjoyable (that is when the session starts to last longer than expected). For all of you PSP fans out there, we have some good news. Where the slimmer and lighter PSP failed (battery life of course), Sony came up with a solution.

According to the company, there is something you can purchase that will get rid of the battery problem you might be having. We are talking about the new PSP Extended Life Battery Kit. It will start shipping in the middle of December and will come with a 2200 mAh battery pack. It is stated that it can double the battery life that appears in the PSP-2000 model available on the market. The even better news is that the Battery Kit will also work with the original PSP-1000 model, although you will not notice much battery life obtained in this case.

The bad news is that the new extended battery is thicker than the one you are using at the moment so Sony also put in special silver and black replacement covers that will get rid of the increase in size you will visibly notice with the PSP-2000. If you want to get your hand on one you will need to pay $44.99 and start playing more than you did before but still less than you would want to. On the other hand, every minute counts when you are trying to reach a save point that you simply can not get to.
