Halo 3 – A Huge Success for Microsoft
By Robert | October 7, 2007

According to Microsoft, their Halo 3 video game gathered sales of around $300 million in the first week of its existence. This actually makes it one of the best sold video games of the year and also is said to have boosted Xbox 360 sales quite a lot.
Halo 3 is a very important element in Microsoft’s gaming department. This is because the competition is higher than ever. Xbox 360 does not only have to fight the previous favorite, PlayStation, they now have to deal with the highly popular Nintendo Wii as well. According to an official statement by Microsoft, the first reports issued by retailers from around the world showed that Xbox sales have almost tripled since the launch of Halo 3. Official stats are not yet made public but we do know that the month of August brought in 277,000 unit sales in
Halo 3 seems to be a very interesting game that lets people battle each other or join forces, kind of like World of Warcraft although the differences are obvious. This game is so popular that it seems has also made it possible for Microsoft to record a record number of people signing up for the paid Xbox Live online service. The three Halo games sold over 20 million copies around the world and Halo 3 is just beginning selling.
It will be interesting to see how this will affect the video game console war that is currently quite interesting. It will more likely hit the Sony PlayStation 3 even more as the Nintendo Wii provides quite a different gaming experience than both Sony’s machine and Microsoft’s. Sony is currently struggling hard and the news linked with Halo 3 will only hit it even more.
