Sony OLED HDTVs Might Come to US This Year
By Robert | November 4, 2007
Sony recently made a statement that is going to make a lot of Americans happy. It looks like their OLED HDTV sets will be available on the new continent this year. The only catch stays in the fact that it all depends on Japanese demand. Everything seems very promising because individuals seem to be drawn to OLED due to the high hopes of less power requirements and also because the HDTVs are a lot thinner and come with better image quality and color reproduction.
It was Stan Glasgow, president of Sony Electronics, who made the announcement in New York. He said that OLED “could come” to USA before the end of the year but it will be in direct connection with the evolution of OLED XEL-1 sales in Japan. If they will sell well there it will be delayed for launch in US.
When the XEL-1 OLED HDTV was launched in Japan everyone around the world (everyone that is into home theatres that is) was happy with what it offered and wanted to purchase it. Everyone can understand why. We have an HDTV that comes with a small screen size of just 11 inches and a price tag that is affordable of $1744. On the other hand everything became complicated as Toshiba also announced they will offer 30 inch OLED HDTV sets by 2009 so competition is bound to appear very soon for Sony. Samsung also plans to launch 40 and 42 inch OLED HDTVs by 2010. On the other hand we are noticing both Toshiba and Samsung only coming up with promises while Sony is actually delivering and might even hit US by the end of the year. We can say this is a huge advantage over the other two companies. We do hope that they will manage to offer real competition earlier as it would mean decrease in price and increases in performances included.
