My mom uses XP, and we have a family laptop getting a motherboard replacement (waiting for compusa to call as we speek) and when we get it back i will make it dual-boot Ubuntu linux/WinXP. I would just make it linux, but mom wants windows on it too..

and my mom's computer has windows. I'm thinking of getting a flash drive, so when I use her computer, I can use linux, but I don't use hers that much so it's not really worth it.

as for the one downstairs, I run FreeSpire linux.

I also have the disks for some other OS's like Sidekick and Pageworks and Tabworks. They all have their place and applications and most have their good and bad points. I will not purchase Vista until all the bugs are worked out and M$ releases the source codes to mfgr's so they can write and release the proper drivers for most of the common software and hardware that exists presently.

If you have no use for that pc in the basement , go to recycle.com.You can give stuff away for people who need them .Its great if they offer it in your area.

I have wins. xp sp2 .I also havea older pc that runs wins 98 and I loved the way win 98 was set up. The first thing i did when I got xp was to set it to act like win 98!

I dual boot XP Pro SP2 and Vista Ultimate, both 64-bit and both legal OEMs. I use XP for gaming (and benchmarking, for the little that's worth), but Vista is my 'work' OS. Will start transitioning to Vista for media too, having the media center built in with Xbox 360 connectivity.
