My son just downloaded and installed Vista on his laptop. What a nightmare, the unit started rebooting intermittently and refused to shut down. His DVD no longer works and the sound is really flaky. I'd like to wipe it and go back to WINXP Media version but it won't even let me do that. AARRGGHH. Don't buy Vista until they get the bugs worked out because you can't go back.

Hmm... that's strange. Try running a repair installation of Vista (overwrites damaged OS files).

Anyway, I actually like Vista. The Media Center interfaces nicely with my Xbox with less setup than I anticipated, the interface doesn't bother me (doesn't get in my way), and it is a pleasant overhaul of the OS. Once the first service pack is released, I imagine it will become a better gaming platform than it is now, which is why I still dual boot XP.
