No ONLY use Spybot Search & Destroy, AdAware SE, or commercial products that have good reviews (check out PCWorld.com for info on that). I cannot tell you the pain and suffering involved in removing those fake anti-spyware applications. Not only will they slow your computer down, they will show you a lot of advertising and will make it as difficult as possible to remove them.

I agree with Spaceman3750. Often times, the pop-ups saying to download the spyware software or do a free scan will just install more spyware. I use Ad-Aware, Spybot, and Windows Defender. I just scan occasionally as I never have spyware.

Ad-Aware: Ad-Aware @ Lavasoft - The Original Anti-Spyware Company - Lavasoft
Spybot: The home of Spybot-S&D!
Windows Defender: Download details: Windows® Defender

Chances are, if a PC has connected to the net w/o anti-spyware protection, it already has download spyware and trojans. A telltale sign usually is reduced system performance upon connection to the net.

Those are just ads that want you to buy their products. They have no idea if you have spyware.I would not buy their products.

I use spybot search and destroy and also adaware. I find these are the best at least for me. They work best for me .My sister says spysweeper is great but you have to buy it.It also takes a lot of space and resources. For viruses I love and count on Norton.
