Checking for corruption after transfer of a large amount of files I recently transferred around 85 gigabytes of .mp3s from an old EIDE drive to a new SATA drive.
I was looking for a program or method by which I could do a quick checksum to make sure all of the .mp3 files are intact and were not corrupted during transfer.
As for why I am going through this trouble, it would be hard to test each file individually, and I don't want to delete the original folder to save space on my old EIDE hard drive yet without being sure I have a pristine copy on my new drive. Deleting the original and finding the copied folder is slag wouldn't go over to well considering how much work I put into my collection.
I have compared the original folders and they appear to be the same in size and file numbers. The SATA drive .mp3 folder is a bit smaller in size than the original, but I suspect that's due to a difference in SATA compression and the fact the drive is around 5 times larger than the original!
I can handle anything from DOS commands to a graphical program, feel free to suggest unconventional methods.
A program that scans the files and spits out a nice output text file with results would work nicely.
Thanks. |
