I think this is my second or third year of hosting my own site. Before that, I used an online host. I started out running apache on windows, and then I moved to ubuntu

What kind of site do you host?

Well, I mainly add stuff that I need. For instance, this year, our school put up an annoying web filter (Bess). I put up a few perl scripts. One lets you search google images (which was blocked). The other works for other sites (roughly). I also added a file upload script and a few games. I simply add stuff that I need.

just use https://www.stupidcensorship.com

Make sure its httpS, because it's harder for your school to block.

They have most of these sites blocked. They even block translating websites using google translator. The nice thing is that when they block my site, I just modify my noip account, and I can get to it again. I simply use a script the uses wget to download the site and then displays the local version.

I know. I've been careful to not put any personal info on the site. The funny thing is that all my teachers congratulate me on the site. It's our administrators and technology people that don't like it.

lol. thats KINDA funny. Not funny that your going aroung the school block, but funny that the admins dont like it.

Well, I took the site down a few weeks ago. One day, I got a creepy blocked message saying that I signed a contract and shouldn't be going to this site. At that point, I figured that they'd be monitoring the logs for activity to the site.

One day I used a free emailing thing from school, to email a family member directions to something (nothing bad), and got a popup:
"Was that email I just saw?" she was remoting into my computer.
