FREE webhosts

Despite their notoriety for being unpredictable, there must some good free webhosts out there. What's better, those w/o adds/links or those with forced ones? I personally would go for those requiring ads or links.

When i used to use free web hosting i used Free Hostia: domain hosting and web hosting service. They went down sometimes but it was pretty good. Not forced ads, or anything.

I've tried many free hosts in the past. I finally came to a conclusion, they all stink. All free webhosts either don't support any scripting languages, put many annoying ad bars on your site, give you a very small amount of storage, or any combination of the above. I eventually got lucky, and found someone who ran their own site, and was willing to host my site for me. Once they stopped hosting sites, I started running my own server.

Same as cheater.. I host my own at home, with Apache 2.0.52 (i think..) MySQL 5, and php 4(I think) on a Mac mini running OS X.

You're running Apache 2.0.59. You don't have your MySQL and PHP info in the footer of server generated pages on your site, so I can't check that.

I have Apache 2.2.3, PHP 5.2.2-1ubuntu1, and Perl v5.8.8. All of this is running on Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbons (Linux)
