Default Windows vs. Linux

For all that it is worth. I would like to know what your view is on both windows and Linux. Then be sure to include which of the two you like the best and why you happen to like that operating system. If you like windows more be sure to include which version of windows is your favorite.

I will start I am a Linux girl by nature but do have windows on one of my systems. I love the stability that comes with using a non windows operating system and prefer to use it most of the time. I do not think that it is any harder than using any windows based operating system and believe that it only takes some getting used to.

I'm currently using Window XP and will upgrade to Vista some time in the near future. I like Windows because most of the software I have is windows based but I don't know if they would work on Linux.
However, I've heard great things about Linux and I've been thinking on giving it a try.

Linux really is not any harder than windows and has better stability. As far as software goes, they are continually working on getting programs so that more users can switch to Linux and some windows software packages actually do work on Linux machines. Now keep in mind that Microsoft is not really wanting the competition so their products do not work to my knowledge.

It all depends on your level of expertise. I myself use Windows for doing my general work - coding and 3D modeling as Windows supports many of the applications that I use day-to-day, whereas Linux does not. But for hosting and other various core tasks I use Linux, this is why I have a dedicated Linux VPS. Both are good for different reasons. Although I am steering towards Linux full-time now that they have a better and more user-friendly GUI.

I generally speaking only ever use Linux for hosting websites and running development environments, ie a LAMP setup or similar. I use Windows Vista for everything else, including playing games and developing websites via my LAN.

I simply feel that windows is made to be more userfriendly and easier to do certain things that benefit me more, than using Linux as my main OS.
