Default Thunderbird Filter

Like many users, I use thunderbird to read my emails. One thing I am trying to accomplish, is to have a filter execute a script. So for example, if an email matches certain criteria, the script is executed. I know that the default mail client on Mac computers is capable of executing an applescript using a filter. I was curious in knowing if thunderbird could do the same.

Has anyone accomplished this task? If so how?
