I recently installed redhat on my laptop. how do i play songs and videos in this OS..

What's the problem? Do you not have a player to load them in? Or do you not have the correct codecs to play them? What version of Redhat? What format are the songs and videos in?

yup!! i think i dont have the correct codecs. ill have to install them first and then try it.

It looks like it has most of the codecs. I don't know what types of media files you are trying to play, so I can't link to a specific rpm. I also don't run redhat, so I don't know if you can install the codecs through yum (I think that's what redhat uses).
