Does anyone else here have the Microsoft Zune?

I purchased this product the day of its release and I dont think I will ever regret it. I used to own an iPod but was never truly satisfied... I was very disappointed that the surface scratched very simply and that is kind of my pet peeve. I also didnt like the service at Apple, if anything was wrong they would just replace it without an attempt to fix it... And I always got hit with fees for replacements.

I trust Microsoft with my life so Zune was not a hard choice at all!

The zune is made with a material that hardly never scratches, I keep it in my pocket without that heavy leather package my iPod had to be in, and hardly ever get scratches.

The Zune comes packed with a standard 30gigs. Which is more than what is necessary. The Zune comes in 3 main colors, Black/Grey with Blue Tint, Brown with Green Tint, and White. The tint with every color really is sweet! I have the Black/Greay one with the Blue tint, and my brother has the Brown one with the Green tint. Very nice!

I have a lot of songs on it and 3 full length movies (all legal, I purchased them). I still have a lot of space!

HIGHLY recommeded!

I'm a little surprised about your disappointment with apple's customer service. When I accidentally formated my hard drive (while installing linux), I was able to get apple to to give me back my purchased music free of charge (I didn't have a backup).

I'm also a little curious as to where you bought the movies from. Since the itunes music store won't work for you (at least not easily), what other options are there?

I actually went to the Apple store in my mall, so it is a direct store. I just had some bad experiences there. The place was crawling with salesmen that were very rude and jump on me insisting I look at everything. I know this is standard salesmen and they are just doing their job but they kind of blew it out of proportion. I had some weird experiences with my iPod itself as well. I actually got a zapping spell from my headsets, where it actually shocked me. It didn't hurt a lot but I felt it and it stung. But I got migranes after it. So I brought the thing in and they refused to help because they thought I was lying, and that they have never heard of that before.

I purchase my DVD's at the store, in DVD form, and use a "certified" DVD "ripper" to get the movies to my Zune. I had to pay 50 some dollars for the program as well. I do not buy the movies online. But this process is legal, if it werent I would not use it. I do not spread the files or anything. From my DVD to my Zune and that is all.

I can still use iTunes if I wanted to, Zune software converts the program itself.

Also - With the reformatting thing, iTunes software knows what songs you DLed, so when you log onto your iTunes account you can download the songs you previously purchased from wherever.

Here's some Zune news from: About those new Zunes (yes, plural) | iLounge

About those new Zunes (yes, plural)

As noted in our Monday update to the Zune story here on Backstage, Microsoft did in fact hold a day-long event to preview new Zune technology to developers. During that event, the company put an image of the iLounge web site up on a big screen and, we’re told, hassled the developers there for leaking Zune information to us (and presumably others). When our mid-day update appeared, noting that the preview event was underway, that apparently caused another fuss.

That aside, here’s what we’ve heard: Microsoft apparently previewed more than one upcoming Zune at the event. The one that people expected - a flash memory-based Zune - is definitely coming. But it’s physically larger than the iPod nano, and apparently not anything amazing: ‘not bad’ is how we’ve heard it described. If you liked the last Zune but wanted something smaller and with less storage capacity, that’s the flash Zune.

The surprise was the preview of an updated hard drive-based Zune. We’ve heard that it will have a bigger display (yes, this surprised us, too) and most likely additional storage capacity, matching higher-end full-sized iPods as the prior Zune matched the lower-end ones. Our guess is that this is Microsoft’s response to the oft-mentioned iPhone dilemma: “great video screen, but how do I store more than 4 movies on it?”

Release dates or prices? We don’t know them yet. If history’s any guide, they’ll be priced at roughly the same prices as peer iPods, and show up a few months from now. Whether or not they make a splash is anyone’s guess at this point.

Another rumored Zune device to hit the market is ZunePhone.

The name ZunePhone has already been copyrighted by Microsoft and rumor is that is in the makings.

People have actually posted on Zune forums I check out pictures from Google Earth of the new Zune plant next to the XBOX plant that is rumored to be getting ready for production of future products.

Should be pretty cool.

The Zune is nice, however, I still prefer my iPod Nano. It was given to me as a gift and it functions well enough for me , especially given that I didn't have to pay for it.

I've been through too many MP3-Type players in the past and the Nano has served its purpose well enough for the time being. If I ever have an issue with it, Apple is pretty good when the need arises.
