Default mp3's

I bought my daughter a sony mp3 for her birthday. It is only 3 months old and now it will not work. I would take it back to the store except I cannot find my receipt. My other daughter has an RCA and it has been working great since Xmas.

Do you know what's wrong with the mp3? Also did you take out any insurance on it? Most insurance's for mp3's are only a couple of quid a month and well worth it as i have broken mine a few times

Call the store, they usually store receipts pretty far past the purchase date. Check the credit card statement to nail down the exact date of purchase.

They may not return it 3 months later, but there might be a warranty from Sony.

bring it back without the receipt. They will probably give you a store credit.

I'm afraid I can't say for certain on US law, but since UK and US law are essentially built on the same foundations, I shouldn't see why an issue like this should be any different.

Anyway, here you're entitled to return it to the store within 6 months and they have to take it without question...this is all without a receipt - a receipt only facilitates the process. As long as you have proof of your purchase through Credit Card statement or the like (although the store should keep records also), there should be problem. After 6 months, you're still protected for up to 6 years here - but it becomes a little more difficult to claim back (normally involves a magistrate if problems involve). This is again without a receipt.

The most important thing to stress though is that there really isn't a need for a receipt - and you don't have to accept store credit either. They may try to tell you that in the store, but so long as you do a little research on US Consumer Law, you should be fine if you cite that.

So yes, good luck! If you like, I can look further into the US law aspect of it for you - just say. Once again, good luck.

How has it broken? Physically or technologically.

Thanks for all the great tips here. Actually it is my daughter's mp3.I bought it for her the last day of March, her birthday. I did get it from Walmart and I usually keep all receipts for things such as this. But for some reason I canot find this and I did pay cash for this.Walmart ,I think, has to have a receipt.I have taken things back there, but I had a receipt.SO I really don't know ,will have to check it out ,but I don't know what is wrong with the mp3. Will check back when I do know. Thanks guys!

I did check out the Sony mp3 player. Seems everything worked fine. All but one thing ,that is so odd. When you connect a set of ear phones it only plays through one side. Isn't that the oddest thing. I bought new ones and it still only plays through one side.Any suggestions?

Since i do not know the model of the player, i cannot comment whether this is a manufacturing fault in that type of player. But to me, that sound like a faulty head jack, and it is much better you take it for service, since the most possible solution is that it will require replacing.

Faulty head jacks usually arise from mishandling, like pulling out the head phones by the cable, or rough treatment of the plug. But sometimes, some players just come with cheap head jack (though its rare to here this from sony players)

Question Re: mp3's

How much would you say something like that would cost to fix. Just an idea. May not be worth fixing .I only gave 72 dollars for it.It says on the back ...my mistake it is not Sorry but Samsung yp-u2j. My daughter is the worlds worst about taking care of stuff,I was really surprised she had not lost it anyway. Thanks
