Default Hiring a site manager

Okay webmasters, site owners, and cyberbusinessfolk, I need your help.

I have my fingers in too many pies. I have a day job, too. I have a site that has the potential to make a good bit of money - a few other sites that have the potential to make a little.

I lack the time and the tech experience to devote the attention each site needs to thrive. I really, really need a web site manager - particularly for the larger site. Someone to coordinate ad sales, newsletters, and volunteer staff - and ideally it'd be someone who would accept a small retainer and then profit-share.

Where do I look? What would the title of this person necessarily be?

I've been frustrated with hiring techies. I've hired several - it seems all of them are goodhearted enough to want to save me money by teaching me to do techie stuff on my own. The problem is, I flat-out do not have time. I need someone who is a self-starter that can make things happen and talk to me about ideas. Suggestions? Feedback? Am I dreamin'? Heh. Thanks!

It seems I do just about the same thing as you.

I manage several different sites/online businesses but my tech knowledge is limited.

If it is ideas, general business stuff I may be able to help you, I can not get too far into PHP though.

I can do some of the coding. I don't know php, but I can accomplish most things you might need in perl. I don't have time to do any of the marketing/business stuff, but the coding I can do. If you're interested, just ask.

You could try the SitePoint marketplace at SitePoint.com. You can either go through the services offered market or pay to put up an ad in the looking to hire market...

As a side note, you are not dreaming. Such techies are the type that take on a job and then realize they too don't have time, so they try to teach you. Or else just want to spread their knowledge to someone who doesn't want it.

Gosh, guys, thanks so much for responding. I guess the best first thing I need to do is to compile a comprehensive list of the things I need done. The person I'm after needs to have the time to devote a good bit of consistent focus to the site(s), not necessarily primarily a coder but good with decoding admin CPs for various software. I use an IPB forum and Gallery, OpenAds, EasyPhpCalendar, Adsense. I do need someone who can get into the promo - particularly regular newsletters.

Thank you for all your offers of help and suggestions. LXscope and cheater, I may be consulting with you soon. Spaceman, I appreciate the link and the reassurance that I'm still awake. I'll go check out SitePoint. Thanks again guys!!
