Default Homebrew

I forget the manufacturer of the mother board but the system specs are:

Intel Pentium 4 at 3ghz
FSB of 800mhz
2gb RAM 533mhz
2 HDD, 1 ea. 80gb and 1 ea. 160gb. on IDE UDMA 133mhz
DVD burner
HAupage video capture card PCI
Nvidia FX5500 overclocked to 800mhz with128MB memory
500 Watt power supply

Nothing really fast or exceptional, just solid hardware that has been on 24/7 for three years and 155 days.

Nice setup,

It's nice to see I'm not the only one around here that overclocks.

P.S

Welcome to the forum.

One thing I've realized is that no one here (including myself) have a tvtuner card for their pc.

So, here is the set-up I will have in a month. It may change before then, but not by much. I am buying a Dell XPS 410.

Dell XPS 410
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo Processor E6600 (4MB L2 Cache, 2.66 GHz, 1066 FSB)
Operating System: Windows Vista Ultimate
Memory: 2 GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667 MHz - 2 DIMMs
Hard Drive: 250 GB Serial ATA 3 Gb/s Hard Drive (7200 RPM) w/ DataBurst Cache
Optical Drive: Dual Drives - 48x Combo + 16x DVD+/-RW w/ dbl layer write capable
Video Card: 256 MB ATI Radeon X1300 Pro
Sound Card: Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeMusic Sound Card
Floppy & Media Reader: 13 in 1 Media Card Reader and 3.5 in Floppy Drive
Modem: 56K PCI Data Fax Modem

Monitor: 19 inch Dell Ultrasharp 1907FP Digital Flat Panel

Speakers: 2.1 Altec Lansing
Keyboard: Dell USB Enhanced Multimedia Keyboard
Mouse: Logitech LX7 Cordless Optical Mouse

I will have a Dell keyboard at first, but once the Wireless Entertainment Desktop 8000 from Microsoft comes out (September), that will be my keyboard and mouse. I will replace my 2.1 Altec Lansings once I get settled. I will also buy a 4-in-1 printer/scanner/copier/fax.

Anyone have any input (besides telling me to just build my own or not buy Dell)?

The only thing i don't like about dell is that they are almost impossible to upgrade anything. They have odd sized everything all the plugs are wired differently and they don't give you anything extra like spare power cables so you can add thing later.

If possible i would drop the ATI card for nVidia's version, i just hate ATI drivers.

Never ever buy a Microsoft keyboard or mouse. I have and they where the worst PC purchase i have made. I have logitech stuff and never had any problems.

I still think you should build it your self. Cheaper, more fun and you will get exactly what you want, not what Dell think you want.

I don't think I could build one myself though. I've read tutorials and can probably do most of it, but definitely not all of it.

A lot of people like the Microsoft Entertainment Desktop 7000 (current model). It has keys like a laptop and looks pretty nice, so I figured I'd try it.

If I stayed with Dell, the ATI 256 MB cards I think were an extra $200. I don't watch videos or play heavy graphic games, so I figured I was OK with the nVidia ones.

Building your own PC is very easy. All you need to do is plug it all in. Most things will only fit in the one place so "if it fits it must be in the right place".

But if you not going to build it your self you can pay other people to do it.

You chose all the parts you want and pay a small fee to get it all put together.
