I'm looking to buy a new digital camera but I'm not sure what my options are... I have a budget of about $1200 but I need some guidance.

What camera would you recommend?

Well what would you like the camera to do? That is only a question you know the answer to. Once you have figured that out you can start looking at camera's. Since you have higher budget I would think you are looking at an Digital SLR.

There are some brands that I would recommend that you look at and they are Cannon, or Minolta. These are the two top brand used by professionals today. Now from there visiting a local camera shop where you can compare the models and functions will be what you will want to do. I personally love my Cannon Digital Rebel, as it meets my needs and gives me a little more options.

I have a simple question, as it happens. What's so good about an SLR? As you can tell I'm rather naive towards photography, but it's always fascinated me. I have a pretty decent camera at the moment, I'm not sure what SLR would help improve. HDR images have always looked fascinating to me, however, I believe SLRs would be capable of this?

I have always wondered what the benefits are from having a SLR camera. They always have a much higher price tag than other cameras, i guess its something to do with the lenses or something, but i really dont have a clue!
