I've thought about dual booting ubuntu linux and xp. However, now I'm leaning towards simply setting up xp on a virtual computer instead.

I'm not a Mac user at the moment but I have used XP running on Virtual pc, virtual machine and multiple operating system solutions by Parallels, Inc. and it worked really well. The best part with parallels is that you don't have to reboot to get into Windows. All you have to do is open a new window. Only thing you need to watch is that you will need a big chunk of RAM as you are really running to OS's at the same time. All the newer Mac's shouldn't have a problem.

Do you by any chance know how that compares with running something like vmware? Does it slow down the main os? Or does the guest OS run slow?

I have never used VMware but with most newer systems like a new Mac that have Intel Core2's they support virtualization in the hardware. That means that they can emulate all your hardware and do a lot better job of spreading out the load.

The system i used wich was a Mac adn it had no slow down that i could see for normal operation. I'm sure if you tried to play games on it at the same time you might run into some performance issues.

That's pretty cool. And the fact that you just need to open a window is even better. In vmware, you have to go through the whole bootup process of the os, then start the the program.

Well, that won't do me much good. Maybe I could run the mac os in vmware. Then, I will use one of those programs to run windows. That will really slow down my comp (3 os's running at the same time).

Anyway, could you post a direct link to the article? I'm not that familiar with the macworld interface.
